Battle of the Books-Summer Reading List Rancho Viejo will have a 2nd Annual Battle of the Books during the 2016-2017 school year. This is a voluntary competition. Students must read books from the predetermined list by March 1, 2017. The top five students from the Rancho Viejo Battle of the Books will go on to compete in the District Battle of the Books in May 2017. 2016-2017 AVID Applications in English & Spanish AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a program for students that are highly motivated and willing to work hard for academic success but need additional support to achieve it. Students in the AVID program are enrolled in the AVID elective class in which they learn note taking and organizational skills and are supported through in class tutoring sessions. AVID students have a very high placement rate in four year colleges. This is achieved through student, parent and tutorial teamwork!
